May 25, 2016 The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan issued a statement today strongly condemning the suicide bombing in the western suburbs of Kabul that day. UNAMA said that the attack resulted in the deaths of 11 civilians and 10 injuries. This is the 15th attack on the staff of the judiciary since Afghanistan took place this year.

In a statement issued on the 25th, the United Nations Assistance Mission to Afghanistan stated that a suicide bomber detonated a bomb on a bus carrying local court staff, causing heavy casualties in the car and the civilians waiting for the vehicle. Including 6 children.
Since the beginning of this year, UNAMA has confirmed 14 attacks against judges, prosecutors and other members of the judiciary. These attacks resulted in the deaths of nine civilians and 19 injuries. In addition, there have been four cases of kidnapping of judicial staff in Afghanistan. UNAMA stated that the Taliban have claimed responsibility for seven of these attacks.
UNAMA expressed sincere condolences to families who lost their loved ones during these attacks and wished the wounded to recover soon.
Nicholas Haysom, the Secretary-General¡¯s Special Representative for Afghanistan and head of UNAMA, stated that the attack against the staff of the judiciary was a widower¡¯s behavior and violated international humanitarian law. He unreservedly condemned the attacks on that day, demanded accountability for the perpetrators of the crimes, and urged the Afghan authorities to make every effort to ensure the personal safety of the judicial staff. UNAMA reiterated that international humanitarian law is binding on all parties to the conflict and explicitly prohibits any attacks against civilians and the use of any indiscriminate means of attack, including the use of self-made explosive devices to carry out suicide attacks.
