UN Secretary-General stresses European Union's "importance" in the European Parliament

On the 17th, UN Secretary-General Guterres emphasized that the success of the United Nations depends on a strong and united European Union.




Guterres made the above statement when speaking in the European Parliament. This is the first time that Guterres has spoken in the European Parliament since he took office as Secretary-General of the United Nations on January 1 this year. Guterres served as Portuguese Prime Minister from 1995 to 2002.
Guterres said at the European Parliament in Strasbourg: "A strong, united Europe is absolutely an important cornerstone of the United Nations. This is the clear message I send to Members of the European Parliament."
Guterres said that he will commit himself to the reform of the United Nations, making it more efficient, and reconstructing the outside world¡¯s trust in it and responding better to people¡¯s passionate ¡°concerns¡±.
Guterres pointed out that in dealing with extreme terrorism, solving the Syrian problem politically, and responding to the refugee crisis, it is necessary to strengthen global cooperation.
Guterres said: "The United Nations needs to strengthen its ability to resolve conflicts and conflicts while preventing conflict and maintaining world peace. This is the UN's current priorities."
The president of the European Parliament, Antonio Talia, pointed out that both the United Nations and the European Union were established after the "World War II." The purpose is to "maintain peace and prosperity through multilateral cooperation."
Antani Tayani said: "We need to work together to find a political solution to Syria and other issues and deal with extremist terrorist groups such as 'Islamic State'. We need to work together to safeguard human dignity and freedom and bring about the next generation. Hope, and implement the 2030 schedule as soon as possible."
